THE CATHY BEREZNICKI BURSARIES for CHORAL SCHOLARS
Cathy Bereznicki was a long-standing member of Addison Singers and a mainstay of the organisation. Outside of the choir, she had a keen interest in education. Sadly, she died far too early and is much missed. Generously, Cathy left a bequest to Addison Singers and we felt it would be an apt and an affectionate memorial to use some of the bequest to fund a special bursary in Cathy’s name.
The Board of the Addison Singers wish to appoint four choral scholars from January 2018 to December 2018 – one for each voice: soprano, alto, tenor, bass – whose duties will be as follows:-
- To support the Music Director and the Oratorio Choir in general at rehearsals, attending at least 80% of Wednesday evening rehearsals. The first two and last two rehearsals per term should be considered compulsory.
- Choral scholars will occasionally be called upon to assist in sectional rehearsals or in matters of vocal development concerning the choir, eg warm-ups/vocal exercises etc…
- Choral scholars will occasionally be offered soloist opportunities with either the Oratorio or Chamber Choirs.
In consideration of the above, Choral Scholars will be paid a one-off fee of £750.00 per year (by £250 per term), will have free membership and will be provided with all music for rehearsals / concerts free of charge.
Applicants should ideally have some experience of singing as both a soloist and in choirs/vocal ensembles, have a high standard of sight-reading and a keen interest in encouraging amateur singers to achieve the highest possible standards.
Interested applicants should submit a CV by email to Claire Lachowicz, Vice Chair, Classical Choirs on chorrock@btconnect.com by Fri Nov 10th 2017. Shortlisted applicants will be invited for a brief interview before the end of November.
