Survey for members of our Classical Choirs

Oratorio Choir and Chamber Choir:

This coming Summer term 2021, we will begin by singing on-line. However we hope that at some stage the government will release guidance that gives a date when we can sing together in person. We don’t know when that will happen. Currently the overwhelming majority of those who have replied to the very short survey we issued at the end of term have said they would like to sing together when we can. But we would appreciate more views. The link follows – please can you reply by the start of the Summer term and tell us what you want

If we are allowed to sing together by the time we are due to resume after half term (2 June) and if the survey replies continue to show an appetite to sing together, then we intend to prepare to rehearse at St Peter’s Church, Acton Green, Southfield Road W4 1BB. Chamber Choir at 6.30 and the Oratorio at 20.00. With approx thirty minutes between to wipe down pews etc. We also intend (technology willing!) to be online from the church for those who feel unable to attend in person. We will draft and send around a risk analysis for members to read in advance. There is on street parking, plus good transport links (nearest tube Turnham Green and the E3 bus) and the park opposite will be available for mingling before and afterwards assuming the guidance allows. And indeed there are local pubs such as The Tabard for those who are interested which have outdoor seating. There will be no concert.

If the government guidance only allows amateur choirs to sing after the full unlock on 21 June, then we are considering moving the start of the second half of term to 23 June and ending term on 21 July. This would be for the Oratorio and Chamber Choir only. The classes, Jazz Choir and Jazz Ensemble will keep to the advertised term dates. We appreciate this is not what our website has said previously and realise some may have booked a staycation away but we hope this will enable us to meet together for longer.  One other point – term fees are currently based on meeting online. If we meet together for half a term we may ask for an additional subscription from those who plan to attend to go towards the cost of hiring the church. It won’t be huge.

Everything is of course uncertain and subject to change. We won’t be able to be clear with members until the government give choirs guidance. So watch this space! Please fill out the survey – and if you want to get in touch and raise any thoughts, ideas, concerns or indeed volunteer to help prep the church eventually please use the survey or email Claire at VCClassicaladdison@gmail.com or Fran at chairaddison@gmail.com
