New composition by Jill Jarman featured on BBC Radio 3
Petroc Trelawney’s Radio 3 Classical Alarm call on 18 January featured a new composition by Jill Jarman, performed by the Chelys Consort of Viols and the Fieri Consort voices. It is based on words by Sir Henry Wotton, a 17th century politician, diplomat and author, King James’ Ambassador to Venice; “Now are my thoughts at peace”. The piece begins with rhythmic harmonies from the viols, blended gently like a bubbling stream under and into the soaring vocals of the singers as they swoop and meld melodies that weave in stately elegance to “and now my joy”, “I feel those comforts”. A restful elongated chord ends the music.”
Jill Jarman says:
“A piece of mine that’s just been released on disc was played on Radio 3 on Monday. (18th Jan, Petroc Trelawney’s Breakfast alarm call). Thought you may like to listen as its for consort of viols and voices (some of you worked with them at our summer 2019 workshop).”
To listen, follow this link to the BBC Sounds site and pick up Jill’s piece at 38.58, to 44.01. It is available to listen for the next 20 days from 27 January. The rest of the set is gorgeous too. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m000rd01
