Looking forward to Autumn 2019

ORATORIO CHOIR – As the Addison Singers head towards their 50th anniversary the Addison Oratorio Choir is looking to recruit new members in all sections of the choir. The Oratorio Choir sing a wide-range of repertoire with a professional orchestra and soloists. Recent highlights have included tours to Austria and Hungary, performances of well-known works such as Orff’s ‘Carmina Burana’, an all Haydn concert that included the ‘Harmony Mass’ and more recent music such as Bob Chilcott’s ‘Canticles of Light’. The coming season will include performances of Handel’s ‘Messiah’ (Part 1), the Beethoven Mass in C and the world premiere of ‘The Gravity of Silence – a Christmas Meditation’, a major work by Howard Goodall, written especially for the choir.

CHAMBER CHOIR – The Addison Chamber Choir is inviting singers to audition for the coming season – new tenors and basses are particularly welcome. Recent highlights for the choir have included joint concerts on the Isle of Man, Bernstein’s ‘Chichester Psalms’ at St John’s Smith Square, the Vivaldi ‘Gloria’ at St Martin-in-the-Fields and a performance of the Vaughan Williams Mass. The coming season includes the Mozart Requiem at St Martin-in-the-Fields and the Michaelskirche, Vienna (Austria) and a concert at the English Music Festival. The choir continue their association with Master of the Queen’s Music Judith Weir and sing other recent music by Huw Watkins and Cheryl Frances-Hoad.

JAZZ CHOIR – Numbers for the choir next term include A foggy day, Big spender, Two sleepy people. Both Ensemble and Choir will sing the great Happy days are here again, combined with Get Happy

JAZZ ENSEMBLE – The Jazz Ensemble is inviting interested singers to audition for Autumn 2019, and is looking in particular for basses. Next term for the Jazz Ensemble we have some numbers from the Great American Songbook to include: I could write a book, a stunning 1940’s sounding arrangement of Stardust, and The nearness of you.
