Jazz on a Summer’s Day – Addison Jazz

6 July, 2019 @ 7:30 pm

Joint Jazz Choir/Jazz Ensemble Concert: Saturday 6 July 2019, 7.30pm @ St Andrew’s, Fulham Fields, Greyhound Rd, London W14.

In our summer concert, Addison’s Jazz Choir and Jazz Ensemble along with a trio of hot jazz musicians, pay tribute to the Newport Jazz Festival cited as being the first American jazz festival. The inaugural concert held in 1954 included Billie Holiday, Dizzie Gillespie and Gerry Mulligan and is still showcasing top jazz talent plus R&B, soul, pop, gospel and world music to this day. The title of our concert is taken from the seminal documentary film of the 1958 Newport festival (available on youtube) and Jill Jarman has penned some arrangements including Tea for Two (inspired by Anita O’Day’s version in “Jazz on a Summer’s Day”), en …another Newport regular.

We will also be singing jazz numbers by the late and great Duke Ellington (who famously appeared at the ‘56 festival) and Charlie Parker including Don’t Get Around Much Anymore and Now’s the Time plus Unforgettable, Sweet Georgia Brown, All of Me, Harlem Nocturne, The Way You Look Tonight and more.

Tickets are £10 / £3 (under 16) available in advance (+booking fee)

Or        £12 / £3 at the Door
