And Then I Saw A New Heaven – Chamber Choir concert (Brandenburg Choral Festival)
22 February @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
The Addison Chamber Choir turn to classics of the English cathedral tradition for their Brandenburg Festival concert on February 22nd. ‘Hail, Gladdening Light’ by Charles Wood, ‘And I saw a new Heaven’ by Edgar Bainton and the ‘Three Motets’ by Charles Villiers Stanford, are pillars of the Anglican church repertoire and are still sung in churches the world over. Here they are heard in concert, alongside more extended anthems, almost small cantatas, by Edward Elgar (his dramatic setting of Psalm 29, ‘Give unto the Lord’) and Finzi’s beautiful ‘Lo, the Full, Final Sacrifice’. The choir bring us up to date with recent works by Ian Venables, James Macmillan and a striking new arrangement by Gavin Bryars of ‘Dido’s Lament’, from Purcell’s ‘Dido & Aneas’. Blazing organ solos by Herbert Howells and Kenneth Leighton played by David Gammie, complete what promises to be an exciting programme.

Ian Venables – Requiem Aeternam
