Chamber Choir goes to Vienna to sing in anniversary performance of Mozart Requiem
In December this year, members of the Addison Chamber Choir travel to Vienna to perform the Mozart Requiem in the Michaelerkirche (St Michael’s Church). St Michael’s is one of the oldest churches in the city, famous for its catacombs, but also for being the venue for the first performance of completed fragments of the Requiem at Mozart’s own Funeral Mass, on December 10th 1791 – our concert also takes place on December 10th and as far as we can tell, this is the first time the piece has been sung on this date, in this church since 1791. The Chamber Choir sing the most frequently performed completion of the Requiem, by Mozart’s pupil Sussamayr, but in the rather more unusual arrangement of the accompaniment for piano duet, made by Czerny.
